Bailey's Last Day of School

Last Friday was Bailey's last day of 1st grade! It's amazing how quickly the time goes by! She's had a great year with her awesome teacher, Mrs. W., and fun classmates, and she's made huge advances in her educational skills. She's such a smart little thing and very good at all the academic subjects. By the end of the third quarter, her reading group was working out of 3rd grade workbooks and she was reading chapter books at home--she loves to read! She's also good at math, which she says is her favorite subject. She also has excellent handwriting, loves artwork, and loves music time.
Friday morning Colby and I went to the school for the awards assembly, where Bailey received her Purple Eagle, which is the school's highest award students can earn for reading during the year. When they gave her that purple medallion to put around her neck, it might as well have been a million dollars, she was so thrilled! Yay, Bailey! She also received a Golden Sneaker Award for staying physically active all year. (The active part comes naturally to her, so it didn't require much effort....the hard part was writing it all down, so Go, Mommy!)
Then I went back that afternoon to watch her class's readers' theater, collect her things, and say goodbye!
Thanks, Mrs. W., for being such a perfect teacher for Bailey this year! You were wonderful for being so flexible when Bailey missed SO MUCH school because of sickness, and were so understanding and supportive of Bailey through all my health issues, as well. And your personality was perfect for her! We love you, and we'll miss you! (I have no idea where Bailey got the peace signs, but it's so cheesy!)

i heard you telling mom where bailey got the medal but I missed it. She did brag several times telling me "it's my 1st medal ever and it's my favorite!" :) I think she wore it most of the weekend! LOL
That peace sign is hilarious!!!

Amber - I can't believe how Baiey's grown...I think of the first graders in our afterschool program and it seems impossible that she could be that big! Where does the time go? I love her little peace signs...and the smile on her face when she's wearing her award brought little tears to my eyes...she looks proud enough to bust! We miss you guys like crazy - hope to see you real soon!
