On the day before Easter, I took the kids to the town Easter Egg Hunt between sessions of General Conference. They were so excited to go, and there were so many kids there, all excited and ready to find some eggs. What we discovered, though, was that they had the baseball field covered in real, hard-boiled eggs! Yuck! For each age category, there were just a couple of plastic "prize" eggs. So except for the kids who found a prize egg, there was no candy, just hard-boiled eggs. (And since I didn't know when or where they were cooked, I wasn't about to let my kids eat them!) I was disappointed, for my kids' sake, but it turned out that I didn't need to be. Colby came running up to me afterward and exclaimed, "Mom, I got FIVE EGGS!" He was so proud of himself. Bailey was a little disappointed, but got over it quickly.
I told her that we'd go to Grandma's house and have our own Easter egg hunt, and they were more than satisfied.

Colby, standing with a friend, very excited for the hunt to begin.

Brycen was just thrilled to be set free on a big field to wander and play. He picked up a few eggs only to throw them right back down on the ground (and crack them, of course). This pose was sheer luck--I was going to take a picture of him walking, but right as I clicked, he started to fall backward. This is the moment right before he bent his legs and landed on his bum.
I didn't get a picture of Bailey, because her hunt was at the same time on a different field. But these are some pics from the evening hunt at Grandma's house.

And
my eggs had candy and money in them! :-) (I got the money idea from my mom, who said that when she was a kid her dad would do family Easter egg hunts with some money involved, and she thought it was way more exciting than any community hunt!)

I've told a couple people about your city's Easter egg hunt. WHO thought hard boiled eggs would be a good idea for a city wide egg hunt? WHO? I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in that meeting.
If all they got were a few cracked eggs, they were VERY lucky. Any 10+ aged boy within a mile had to resist grabbing those things and chucking them at any moving target.
We use real eggs in our family hunt, but ...wow....
:D
