We decided to have his party at my parents' house (pretty much where we have all parties, haha), so my mom made a little birthday cake for Brycen to have alone.
This is a terrible picture of her, but it's just because it's one of those moments when you catch someone mid-blink or whatever. Sorry, Mom, but it's the only picture I have of the cute table! She bought the teddy bear and balloon bouquet for him.
My mom asked Jonathan to make his amazingly delicious baby back ribs for dinner. He'd made them once before, and she was hooked for life after that! They are so good!
Brycen's face in this one cracks me up. It looks like he's terrified, but he doesn't scare very easily, so I'm thinking it's more shock and amazement than anything. Maybe excitement that we were putting it right in front of him, in a dark room, where everyone was singing?
He kept wanting to touch the flame, of course, which had Bailey very worried. She kept holding his hand back and chastising me for taking pictures while he sat there looking at an open flame. I just kept taking pictures, so finally she blew out the candle rather than see her baby brother get burned. She's such a good big sister!
When Brycen first reached out to touch the cake and got icing on his hand, he looked at his fingers like, "What is this stuff?" But after he tasted it, he didn't care about the mess anymore--he loved it! Notice him squishing it in his fist, too.
Oh yes, he likes cake!Some facts about my sweet not-so-baby boy (as of his birthday):
*He's 20 pounds and 29 inches.
*He can say Mama, Dada, light, and bye-bye.
*He's a fast crawler and loves to walk holding hands but won't do it on his own.
*He can wave bye-bye.
*He's a big-time Mama's boy and chooses me over everyone else, unless somebody has food.
*He still loves to nurse and is just starting to expand his solid-food diet.
*He loves to climb--stairs, boxes, anything near him that helps him get higher.
*He loves Bailey to death, and Colby's a close second, if not equal.
*He's not fond of fruits and vegetables but loves meat and carbs. Great.
*He sleeps with me and Jonathan most of the time.
*He'll give Mommy wide-mouthed kisses, but no one else!
*He loves music. If he hears singing, he joins in with "Ahhs" and starts moving to the rhythm!
*He LOVES JESUS. Whenever he sees a picture of Jesus, even if it has other people in it, too, he knows and recognizes Jesus right away and starts talking and smiling really big! I have no doubt that he knows who Jesus is and loves Him, because he remembers Him!
We all love Brycen so much, and I don't know how we could ever live without him now that we have him here with us. He brings us so much laughter and happiness--he's sunshine in our house! I thank my Heavenly Father every day for sending him to our family. He's worth every moment of pain and bed rest and worry--a million times over!

Brycen cake pics are adorable. He does look scared in the first picture. Too funny!
