Speaking of Injuries.......

Colby had to have surgery this morning for trigger thumb. It's just a simple problem that happens to some toddlers where their thumbs won't go straight, but stay pointed in toward their hand at the knuckle (didn't think to get a picture of it before--sorry). Bailey had to have the same surgery on just her left hand at about the same age.
So when Colby started giving me a bent thumbs-up, I realized that he had developed the same problem, and we dragged him to the ortho doc, who scheduled us for surgery.
We had to be there at 6:30 AM, and Colby just seemed kind of happily confused about why we dragged him out of the house so early (we left Bailey behind with my brother) and he was getting so much special attention at the hospital. He even got a new outfit with tigers on it--cool!
Long story short, he was happy and easy-going before the surgery, and the staff was awesome. After he woke up and found his hands bandaged up, he was pretty ticked. All he wanted was to get those bandages off. Jonathan described trying to keep him from touching them as "trying to hold down a grizzly bear." We were prepared, though, because Bailey had acted like a cat with rabies.....on drugs.
Here's a few pictures and videos of the ordeal....which is a lot funnier the second time around, by the way.

This one's just when we first got there and the nurse was doing all the routine pre-op stuff. Check out his new haircut--Jonathan buzzed it last night. We weren't sure how it would look, since his hair's so light and fine, but we both love it. Hello, sunscreen, though!

They have this cute little red wagon "hospital bed" for little kids, and they let him play with it while we waited for his surgery time. At first I pulled him in it, but then he wanted to pull it around himself. The staff was so great to let him pull that thing around and around the surgery area.

This was our last view of him as he went off to surgery. The doctor had just let him push the Handicap access button, and the anesthetist had told him he was going to get to blow up a balloon (attached to a gas mask :-)), so he was excited!

This one's self-explanatory--he was ticked.

Jonathan says this one is going to make him mom cry. After seeing how feisty and angry he was, the nurse had given him some pain meds, and it very clear when they kicked in, because he went from angry and rigid to sad and lethargic.

Even though he only had 5 hours of sleep the night before (late night with Daddy--don't ask), he didn't go back to sleep until after his second dose of codeine at 3:15!!!!!

It is hard when you have to watch your kid kicking and screaming even when you know they'll be okay.

Look at you and Camille having hurt kids. I hope that mine is not next! It's sad to see Colby screaming "ouchy" as he is trying to take of the casts.

oh that is sad. Noah was pyscho like that after waking up from his 12 minute surgery of getting tubes in his ears. It is sad because they don't understand, but I also think that they don't remember that part later either, becaues they are still 1/2 way out of it.
YOu guys are totally laughing though! RUDE!! :)

amber that's so sad! I had no idea that could happen to toddlers. He is such a tough little guy though!

Poor little guy! I wouldn't have guessed how angry he was. He is great and definitely a boy with energy when I saw him! It was so fun to see you the other day and let the kids play! I would love to come again!!

Amber- adding the time people update is a new feature by blogger. Go to add page element and on the top left hand side it says "Blog list" click on that. You have to enter in all the URL's again, so it takes time, but in the end will save so much time!!! I love it!!!
