Yesterday after I picked Bailey up from school, she said, "Mommy, guess what happened to me today?" and then started telling me the saddest, funniest story, so I have to share it with you all, but I'm going to write it just as she told it to me, from her perspective.
"I saw the fire truck outside, but I didn't know why it was there, because there wasn't a fire. Then I went to the bathroom and while I was going, the lights started flashing and then there was a really big noise. It was so scary so I covered my ears and I was crying and saying 'Mommy, Mommy!' but you didn't hear me. Then when I ran out of the bathroom, there was nobody there, and it was dark, and I went to my class and the door was shut and everybody was gone! I was crying so hard, but then Bernard's mom saw me [fortunately, our bishop's wife, who has a son Bailey's age, was in the hallway at the time] and took me outside to my teacher, and my teacher was so worried about me, she said 'Bailey, Bailey, I was so worried about you!'"
Today I asked the teacher about it, to make sure Bailey had done what she should have done, and she said the first thing the teachers do, of course, is get their classes outside and take roll, and then someone goes in for anyone who's missing. Bernard's mom just found her first! But she said Bailey was still bawling when she got outside to her class, the whole experience had scared her so badly!
Bailey said she wanted to draw a picture of it to show us what happened, so that's below. I had her tell me about each part of the picture, so I'll explain that right now.....First of all, the small thing in the top left corner is the fire alarm, which she said was flashing blue and beeping very loudly. Then there's the sink, then next to it is the soap dispenser, which she said was dripping because she was washing her hands so quickly to hurry and get out of there (I think it's so cute that she still washed her hands, because she had gone #2!). The squares at the bottom are the floor, and over on the right is the toilet and the flush handle. The funniest part to me is how she first drew her hands down, like a typical stick figure, and then remembered to put them over her ears instead, so she erased the first ones, but it just looks like she has 4 arms!
Well, I hope this made someone smile, and maybe you mothers out there will want to have a talk with your kids about what to do in the case of them being in the bathroom during a fire drill! :-)
