Happy Birthday, Colby!

Yesterday was Colby's birthday party. He called it his "pretend birthday," since his real birthday is still a few days out.
He's never had an official birthday party with friends and everyone that was actually planned ahead with any kind of order. So this year I wanted him to finally have a real birthday party. He asked to have a Batman party, so we made cool invitations and delivered to 5 little friends on our street. I also asked my sister Camille to come up from Vegas, because with my being on bed rest I knew I shouldn't be up doing much. She's still here and has been a HUGE help--thanks, Camille! Only 2 of the 5 kids we invited showed up, but with my kids and Camille's two, it was actually the perfect number. So thanks, Mr. T and A-Man (for privacy) for coming to Colby's party--and thanks to their moms, too!
OK, the rest of this post is pretty much a run-down of the party and all the games, so you can skim it without missing too much--unless you're planning a Batman party, then it might be interesting to you!
Jonathan and I had made Batman t-shirts using iron-ons from ebay, and then my mom and aunt made a small cape for each kid, so as soon as they arrived at the party, we dressed them up like Batman. I think they would have just been happy to run around dressed like that the whole time! But we did have games....
We started out by playing "Land the Batplane in the Bat Cave (trampoline)," which was a huge hit, and the kids didn't want to stop playing it. The would throw their paper airplanes off the balcony, then run downstairs to the backyard to get them, then back upstairs to try again. I wrote their names on them, so it was easy to keep them straight.
Next we played a villainous version of Musical Chairs. I had printed pictures of various Batman villains, enough so that there would be one per child. Then I hung them around the room and had the kids stand in a circle in the middle of the room. We played music (Star Wars theme--it was cool) while the kids marched around, then when the music stopped they each had to run to a villain. After each round I'd pull the name of a villain, and whoever had that villain was out, because they had conquered the bad guy, but it wore them out, too! The last person to be out was the winner.
Our last game was "Pin the Logo on Batman's Chest." Colby was the winner with no challenge, but it made us wonder if he was seeing more than the back side of a black bandana. It didn't look like he was peeking, but.....well, look at the picture.
After the games we had pizza and then brought out the Batman cupcake/cake. This summer in an enrichment class I learned how to make icing transfers for cakes and cupcakes, so I decided to actually put the lesson to use and try it out yesterday. I was kind of nervous, but it turned out to be SO EASY! I was very proud of myself afterward. Colby thought it was an awesome cake!
The last part of the party was the gifts, and Colby was so excited to open all his presents. He loved every one, and later when Jonathan asked him if he had a fun day, he said, "Yes. My presents are so awesome!"
By the end of the day, I was totally worn out, and my belly was feeling a little overstretched. So I'm very happy Camille was here to help, plus Jonathan was here as good moral support. :-) But I'm so glad we decided to have a party, because Colby had a blast, and it was fun to have Camille and her kids here for a couple of days, too!

Looks like it turned out awesome!!! Tanner thinks Colby looks pretty cool and like him. Too bad that Tanner wasn't at his party and Colby at Tanner's. Oh well! Your cake looks good!

What a cute birthday party. I especially like the musical villians and the happy explanation as to why you're "out". That was good thinking on that one.

Darling! I love all of the excellent ideas. One day if I have a boy, I might just have to steal away. Looks like everyone had a good time. I am glad that you didn't over do it with yourself.
